Why We Burn Out.
Go! Go! Go! Crash!
Go! Go! Go! Crash!
Go! Go! Go! Crash!
This is the way most of us navigate the day, week, month and year.
During the day, we buzz around doing all the things all day, and may even have to force ourselves asleep to get up and do it again.
Or Monday – Friday, we are at 100% all the time and collapse on the couch Saturday and Sunday, never getting a chance to actually enjoy the weekend.
Or we may find throughout the month or year, we regularly hit a crash period or our body forces us to stop by getting sick before kicking ourselves back into high gear to get sh*t done!

This is the way I lived for a long time. It was the right way. It was the only way. It was the way everyone else was doing it. It was the way my ancestors survived and coped. But it got to a point where I hit my wall. I burnout out. That way of living was unsustainable for me.
With the help of decolonization philosophy, somatic exploration, and self-inquiry, I began to chip away at deeply held beliefs about how I “had” to live and work. I wasn’t a Black Superwoman – nor did I even have the desire to be.
Then, it suddenly became so clear: smooth out the process, bring it into balance, look to nature for guidance. Rather than oscillating between two dissociative extremes, I chose to uncover the unique cyclical rhythm of my own body. By doing so, I’m able to gradually move in and out of different phases of my rhythm in an embodied way rather than constantly having abrupt explosion-and-crash fits. That is, I have dedicated periods to ramp up, execute, ramp down, and rest that continuously feed into one another much like the seasons of the year: spring, summer, autumn, and winter.

Once I uncovered this for myself, it seemed so obvious: it is just the life cycle of nature.
Why was I the only one who couldn’t see it? Why did it take me so long to see something that was literally right on front of my face?
But I have come to learn others would like help in transitioning to this type of living. Like I was, many are stuck in the explosion-and-crash fits because that is all they know – all they have ever done and all they have ever seen.
As such, I’m excited to help people begin the process of living and working cyclically and seasonally. I can’t tell you what your daily, weekly, monthly and yearly pattern should be but I can share with you:
My unearthing process and how it helped me recover from burnout
Prompts and questions that can help you begin to observe and track your own rhythms and cycles
Somatic practices to relate to the fear or terror of living and working differently that the “norm.”

Session 1: Why we can’t be 100% , 100% of the time
In this first session, we’ll explore the concept of capacity, why perceptually bypassing capacity lead to burnout, and how we can make future plans when our capacity regularly fluctuates. We’ll also introduce the four phases of the life cycle.
Session 2: Breaking Down the Day & Understanding Autoregulators
In our second session, we’ll begin the process of hypothesizing our ideal daily cycle, observing our current daily cycle, and tracking what shifts may need to occur. We’ll also explore the impact of autoregulators on the body, how they can disrupt or bypass our natural rhythms, the difference between resting vs. collapsing and being energized vs. being stimulated.
Session 3: Breaking Down the Week & Expanding Capacity for Difference
In our third session, we’ll begin the process of hypothesizing our ideal weekly cycle, observing our current weekly cycle, and tracking what shifts may need to occur. We’ll also explore what “self-sabotage” is really telling us as well as how to begin to expand our capacity to set boundaries and be different from the norm.
Session 4 Breaking Down the Month/Year & Carrying the Work Forward
In our last session together, we’ll discuss the different ways we can experiment with applying the life cycle to the month and/or year, how to stay in relationship with and observation of our rhythms which will continue to shift and evolve over time, and the practice of attuning to our agency when navigating systems and networks that regularly bypass their capacity and expect us to do the same.
