FAQs
1. How much does the 7-week course cost?
$600 USD
2. I live in a different timezone/my work schedule won’t allow me to attend the live sessions. Will I be missing out if I can only watch the replays?
Participants who come to the live classes say they also watch the replays to help them digest the material. So those who take the course just by watching the replays don’t miss too much. They get the chance to watch it in a calm, relaxed state because there can actually be some stress that comes along with participating live. Those who watch the replays are still able to be fully engaged via the community forum. And after a cohort ends, we always get emails from participants who were never in a live session but describe how the course profoundly changed their lives.
3. What platform do you use for the community forum?
Circle — it is very similar to Mighty Networks. Or if you are familiar with Facebook and Slack,
Circle is a nice combination of both of those platforms.
4. Is the course helpful if I already have some understanding of somatic therapy or have experience
in a health-related field?
Yes! In my experience with somatic training and work, it rarely delves into nutrition, animism,
and decolonization. Understanding trauma healing through relating, ancestry, or how certain
foods can activate a trauma response is very different from the way we typically see somatic
work in our institutions.
If you have a ton of experience with trauma, somatic work, nutrition, decolonization, and
animism, this will be fun for you but you probably won’t learn a whole lot of new information.
That being said, you may find it fun to connect with me, learn more about my perspective/practices, as well as be in community with the rest of the cohort for a few weeks.
5. I am a psychotherapist, doctor, midwife, physical therapist, nutritionist, etc. Will this course be
helpful with my clients?
Absolutely! You’ll be able to integrate some of these tools into your own practice depending
on the particular needs of your clients. We’ll make connections between trauma, somatic
work, nutrition, decolonization, and animism that are typically not addressed and many of your
clients have probably never considered.
6. Does this course address processing grief? Dealing with ongoing physical pain and discomfort?
This course is all about building capacity in different ways. In this course, we don’t focus on
specific events but rather how to build capacity for whatever we may be experiencing or
encountering. How do we begin to feel or even use the sensation rather than become crippled
or overwhelmed by it? As such, anything that is in your body during this course will be worked
with.
7. What if I can’t feel my body or what if I feel things too intensely?
Every person who takes this course will enter it having a different journey of relating to their
body. For anyone having trouble connecting to their bodies or if they become
overwhelmed by sensations, there is a reason for that -- we just don’t have the resources or
capacity to be with it at the moment.
We have structured the course so that you get all these tools and resources in a download. As
a result, you can show up, learn the information cognitively even if you can’t implement it
immediately, and then you can practice the exercises over the following days, week, or
months. You will then begin to find your capacity steadily increases at its own rate – some
people have a breakthrough in the very first class while I’ve also gotten emails from
participants a year after their cohort ended saying they were able to make a connection or
they felt something shift in their body.
8. Is the course recommended for people who are neurodivergent (ND), e.g. Autistic or have
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)?
Absolutely! I have ADHD and we’ve had many participants with mild to severe Autism or
participants with ND kids. I find this work to be even more important for those who are ND
because some forms of neurodivergence are expressions that come from an overwhelmed
nervous system, i.e. a high sensitivity to sensation. Since this course focuses on rehabilitating
the nervous system and building capacity, we’re indirectly working with expressions of the
nervous system as well.
That doesn’t mean we get rid of the neurodivergence. Instead, we learn how to relate to
those expressions better as well has how to shift our nutrition or coregulate with our
environments to find safety, which lowers our charge.
9. Is nutrition a big part of the course?
We’ll exclusively focus on nutrition in Week 2. But it is only one tool of many we’ll explore
in the course. Check out the Quiet Diet FAQ on the next page for more information.
10. Do you work with people 1:1?
I am currently not accepting 1:1 clients. However, it is important to recognize if you require
1:1 support. Some past participants have hired a somatic therapist to work with them
individually throughout the course and it is hugely helpful for them because they need that
extra holding.
11. How much does the Library membership cost?
$50 USD per month and you can cancel at any time.
12. When are the HLN breaks?
HLN takes quarterly two week breaks through the year. The 2024 breaks take place in March, June, October, and December.
